8 Outstanding LGBT Allies in Entertainment

When I was in high school I kicked off and co-chaired the first branch of the Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA). It was a difficult pitch and drew the attention of several people outside the school system. One afternoon I stood in line at Dunkin Donuts and overheard a woman behind me telling someone that “Tolland high school [had] started a gay club for gay kids“. Her tone was a mix of disgust and concern.
The friend standing with me rolled around to interject and let her know that the club’s founder was buying coffee just two feet away. Having an ally can make the difference between feeling threatened and alone or supported and safe. It’s been over a decade since that incident and we’ve seen a lot of change. Allies are not just our closest friends and family anymore, but major personalities in music, movies, sports, politics, etc.
