Dattch Pick: #HomoPromo Fundraiser In Shoreditch

You want to support Stonewall, end homophobia and buy awesome artwork, don’t you?  Thought so.  That’s why you should head over to Shoreditch tomorrow for #homopromo –  an event to support the LGBT community in Russia where art will be exhibited and auctioned off, there’ll be booze, a DJ and the hilarious Jen Brister will be the compere.
We’re in a fortunate position to not need international support for gay rights, and recently the Guardian showed us just how good we have in in a chart displaying rights around the world. Here’s a reminder of why Russia, and many other countries need our help.
russiavukHere’s the official word from the event organisers, “Russia has passed laws making it a crime to ‘promote’ homosexuality. Well we thought, if they won’t, we will. Towards the end of the Winter Olympics we launched #homopromo, a campaign inviting people to submit glorious gay posters protesting against Russia’s anti-gay legislation.  We’ve had a terrific response, with artists submitting from around the world, we even got picked up by Buzzfeed.”
To get a taste of the art that will be showcased, you can check out the #homopromo tumblr and get ready to bid on your favourite pieces tomorrow night.
