LGBT Rights Around The World

Although we celebrate our newly granted marriage rights in the UK, we should never forget that there are many, many countries around the world where being gay or transgender means you have little to no protection under the law, not to mention countries where being gay is illegal altogether.
The Guardian have posted a handy guide to the world of LGBT rights and a few shocking statistics that will make you very grateful to have our level of freedom. Did you know that there are 79 countries in which consensual sex between LGBT people is either illegal or the law is ‘unclear’ on the matter?  And only 29 countries give full support against hate crime for LGBT people.  Just 29.
While we will always have work to do in this area, it’s a good reminder that we are enormously fortunate and that we still need to show support to those still fighting for their rights.
