The DJ Booth with Ms. Jackson

May 15, 2015

If you’ve been following my posts on HER hopefully you’ve seen my favorite feature “I Heart HER!” – a place for female artists to highlight their awesomeness. If you want to listen and discover some new music follow the playlist on Spotify. If you’re already following it, YOU ROCK!
Lots more exciting artists to come, but for now, here’s five that I’m absolutely loving.

Rebel Wilson & Adam Devine “We Belong”
Are you ready for the bad*ss chick flick of the Summer? Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and Elizabeth Banks return for another knock out, drag out singing competition in Pitch Perfect 2. I seriously heart Rebel Wilson and her hilarious Australian funniness. Check out her and co-star Adam Devine with their rendition of Pat Benatar’s 1984 classic “We Belong”. Run, don’t walk. The movie opens today May 15th.

Jess Glynne “Hold My Hand”
Remember last year’s love-beat (just made that up) anthem by Clean Bandit “Rather Be”? Of course you do. Remember that chick that sang the song? Probably not, HA. That’s Jess Glynne, a UK vocalist who is standing on her own now with a future dance-floor classic “Hold My Hand”. She’s got a voice for days, and if you like redheads, definitely follow her on Instagram @jessglynne. She’s gorgeous!

Shamir “On The Regular”
I started this feature “I Heart HER!” as a way to showcase female artists – a little Spice Girls girl power action, so to speak. But “Her” doesn’t have to mean her in the female sense. Shamir is a queer artist that doesn’t conform to gender identity. That’s why I heart Shamir. This 20 year old artist is one of the most buzzed about, talked about, exciting new artists in the queer community right now. Listen to the new album “Ratchet” on iTunes Radio for free to hear what Shamir is all about.

Christine And The Queens “Saint Claude”
Héloïse Letissier aka Christine And The Queens is an artist’s artist. She’s french, she studied theatre (in France) and people have called her music “freakpop”. She also has an affinity for drag queens, and that’s where her name came from. She’s been bubbling up the last few years and has a new EP “Saint Claude” that is available now. You’ll be able to catch her this summer when she’s on tour with Marina And The Diamonds.

Bebe Rexha “I Don’t Wanna Grow Up”
If you went to Dinah Shore this year you may have seen Bebe perform. She was the dark haired bombshell that you were definitely drooling over. Bebe’s been a featured vocalist for David Guetta, Cash Cash and Pitbull plus she’s written songs for Madonna, Tinashe and Rihanna. Sheesh, nobody puts Bebe in a corner!
