Lights, camera, action — LA Pride is here! With more than a 50-year legacy of Pride celebrations, Los Angeles shines extra bright this time of year. Here are some of the places in LA where you can support the LGBTQ+ community this Pride Month.
APAIT
Originally established in 1987 as a grassroots service organization, the Asian Pacific AIDS Intervention Team has continued to do work to support the LGBTQ+ community.
Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum
The LA Memorial Coliseum hosted Outloud: Raising Voices in collaboration with Pride Live’s Stonewall Day on June 4th, 2021. In this three-day concert series, queer artists such as Hayley Kiyoko, Adam Lambert, and Kim Petras performed live to raise funds for queer organizations and charities.
Dodger Stadium
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Texas Rangers faced off for the eighth annual LGBTQ+ Pride Night on June 11, 2021. The night was a collaboration with queer organizations such as LA Pride, Outsports, Varsity Gay League, and the Greater Los Angeles Softball Association. The game started at 7:10 PM with drink specials, commemorative Dodgers Pride T-shirts, and a recognition of LGBTQ+ first responders from Los Angeles. Special guests were featured in the pregame festivities.
Redline Gay Bar – DTLA
On June 11th, 2021, there was A Proud Queer Moment event with live music, drag queen performances, and LGBTQ+ vendors. The venue hosted a Pride 2021 party for Black queer and trans folks.
Throwback hip-hop, R&B, and soul music played all day long, curated by DJ Kidd. Since his Reunion parties in San Francisco were a hit, this was the first Reunion LA event with more planned for the future. And on the 18th, there was a celebration for the launch of Captura, a queer-trans youth magazine.
910WeHo
At 8PM on June 12, 2021, Munch offered space to meet and chat with other kinky queer people over food and drinks for queer folks and allies who were interested in kink.
Will Rogers State Beach
Affectionately named the gayest beach in LA, Will Rogers hosted a special Pride event for the sober community. The Big Gay Beach Games Day was sponsored by The Phoenix, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles without the use of substances.
The event organizers asked that everyone who attended be sober for 48 hours, and they requested attendees wear a mask. The event started at 12:30 PM on June 20, 2021, at Lifeguard Tower 18.
Hollywood Hills
Equality Armenia’s first-ever Hye Pride event took place at 8 PM on June 26, 2021. There was a virtual and in-person portion of the event celebrating the Armenian LGBTQ+ community and allies.
Both portions of the event offered drag performances, music, comedy, and dance, with keynote speakers from the community. The in-person soirée took place at a private residence in Hollywood Hills.
Hollywood Forever
The Los Angeles LGBT Center hosted a Pride Picnic on June 27, 2021. This outdoor event benefited the Center’s programs and services, which included HIV and STD testing and housing services. DJ Asha set the tone of the evening, with several performances by drag stars. Local vendors were set up at the picnic, along with sponsors giving away free Pride merchandise. Attendees brought their own blankets, chairs, and snacks.
Akbar
Akbar was a staple of LA’s queer community, proven by their December fundraiser to stay open through COVID, in which they raised over $150,000 in one day.
On June 6, 12, 13, and 14, 2021, there were parties celebrating LA Pride, complete with guest DJs and special guest performances. On June 12, 2021, they also sponsored a Tutus ‘N Heels walk supporting the LGBTQ+ youth of Camp Brave Trails.
Loretta Young House
Take a self-guided walking tour of queer architect John Woolf’s most esteemed work. A prominent figure in developing the Hollywood Regency architectural style, Woolf collaborated with life partner Robert Koch on many projects.
The tour, supported by the City’s One City One Pride LGBTQ Arts Festival, began at a house Woolf designed for actress Loretta Young and culminated at the Pendleton House in Beverly Hills.
Mook works in User Acquisition and Lifecycle Marketing at HER, driving growth through targeted engagement strategies. Previously, she managed media partnerships in the US and UK and served as a Country Manager and Ambassador in Thailand. Mook manages App Store and Play Store testing, Apple Maps guides, in-app events, PR outreach, and monitors performance. She also works on sales case studies and handles WordPress tasks.
