Meeting new people, having new experiences, connecting with each other – that’s what dating should be about! But often for LGBTQ+ people (and trans folks especially!), we need an LGBTQ+ space – because the only way to make a truly deep connection with someone is by feeling safe to be yourself. Queer spaces, especially those explicitly inclusive to trans folks, offer the safety and support to be completely ourselves without fear. That’s what HER profiles are all about.
HER offers a judgment-free zone where you can find people like you and people who respect you. Queer people need to stick together, and that always includes the trans community. So if you’re trans and looking for anyone – from cis to non-binary to trans to anywhere in between – HER is a place to be your authentic self and find someone who wants you for you. Head to the App Store or the Play Store and see what happens – you could meet the one.
We know that dating as a trans person can often feel daunting or overwhelming. And safety for trans people is not always guaranteed – especially online. At HER, we have a strong commitment to making our app a safe and inclusive place to date and chat for all trans folks. Trans women, Trans men, non-binary, and genderqueer folks are all welcome here. We have 30,000 active trans men and 40,000 active trans women on the app, as well as communities for trans men and women that have over 90,000 users.
The first thing to ensure safety for yourself is to find spaces that let you be you and minimize transphobia and fetishization. Apps like HER can be a great place to start, because they’re spaces that respect and understand who you are, and you can easily find others that share your experiences. HER users can choose from several different identities, add pride pins (like trans pride or T4T) that explain who you are/what you’re looking for, or even choose to go incognito so no one can see you unless you like them first. There are several options to choose from to keep you safe and help you feel comfortable.
Being trans is just one part of who someone is, just like your sexuality or your race are just one part of who you are. The most important thing is to respect them, their identity, and their journey. Because we prioritize the safety of our trans users, please be aware that unicorn hunting and fetishization are not welcome on our platform.
If you don’t know much about trans issues or the experience, do some research before you dive into dating someone trans. It is never anyone else’s job to educate you about their identity. If you’re not sure where to look, we have plenty of articles on our blog about what to do if you’re unsure of someone’s pronouns. And above all else, the key is always to be respectful.
Apps created by and mostly for straight people have limited options for gender, pronouns, or sexuality. HER has numerous options for all of these categories, and you can pick as many or as few as you like. Identities are complex and varied, and your profile should be able to reflect that. If there’s nothing on there that fits, you can also self-describe or not include a label. Other apps may also tolerate people who specify “no trans people” in their profile. On HER, we take a very firm and proactive stance against TERFs. If anyone is being transphobic they will be removed from our community. We want to make this a space where you can focus on connections and conversations that could lead to more friends or a new bae!
Whether you’re fresh out of the closet or you’ve been in the game for years, dating in a space that is respectful and loving is often far easier than trying to date in spaces built for cis, straight people.
Apps like HER offer space to find people who respect you – which is why we also have a community section of the app for making friends. There are a ton of communities you can join but the Trans Men and Trans Women communities are big ones with plenty of people posting every day.
