LGBT+ movies are very dramatic a lot of the time, whether it’s because it’s a coming-out story, internal conflict, or external conflict. Vampire movies are pretty much a genre in their own right. But one thing vampire movies know how to do is drama. This film, starring Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, is based on the novel by Anne Rice, which tells the story of a vampire, Louis de Pointe du Lac, who recounts his life to a mortal reporter.
Opposite Louis is Lestat de Lioncourt, the histrionic vampire who is also bisexual in all senses of the word in the original novels, but the movie only hints at the homoerotic nature of the two main characters. You’re in luck, though, because the 2022 TV reboot series Interview with the Vampire on AMC is a lot less shy about showing the real queer nature of the story – and is also a blast to watch.
Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles, the 1994 film, is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
Moonlight chronicles the life of Chiron from childhood to adulthood and how he comes to navigate his life as a gay Black man. Charlize Theron plays an overworked mother of three, including a newborn baby, who happens to be bisexual and embarks on a complicated and heartwarming relationship with her night nurse, Tully, in this comedy-drama. It’s a down-to-earth and charming look into a woman who just needs a break.
The film’s comedic timing and tone is reminiscent of Juno, which is no surprise since it comes from the same director and screenwriter, Jason Reitman and Diablo Cody, respectively. It also stars MacKenzie Davis, who plays Tully and has been a bi fave since the “San Junipero” episode from Black Mirror, so why not see her work in this film?

Okay, Spider-Man has never been confirmed as bisexual in any iteration. But fans and the Amazing Spider-Man himself have asked the question, “why can’t Spider-Man be bisexual?” Andrew Garfield asked this question in a since-removed interview with Entertainment Weekly, but the internet is forever, and we’re still talking about the interview years later.
I like to rewatch The Amazing Spider–Man knowing that Garfield is an ally to the bis, even after the fallout of the interview. Sometimes, you take whatever you can get, which shows how much further bi representation has to tread on the big screen.
