Our groundbreaking new survey of over 2,000 LGBTQ+ sapphics reveals what many already know: being bisexual comes with its own unique set of struggles, triumphs, and eyebrow-raising moments. From “Bi Panic” to the constant need to come out (again and again), our findings highlighted below showcase the invisible but very real challenges faced by bisexual sapphics navigating their sexuality in both straight and LGBTQ+ spaces.
In response to what we heard from our users in this survey, we have officially launched our Bi Panic campaign! We are continuing to uplift and support the amazing bisexual community by partnering with Capri Campeau and Ashley Whitfield to answer the biggest Bisexual Panic Questions. In a disheartening revelation, 40% of bisexuals reported feeling invisible even within LGBTQ+ spaces. This underscores the need for more inclusive representation and visibility for bisexual sapphics within the larger community.
Add to that the 30% who have had to explain the difference between being bi and pansexual, and it’s clear that understanding bisexuality is still a work in progress for many.
A striking 27% of bisexual sapphics shared that they’ve experienced multiple “coming out” moments depending on who they are dating at the time and have to continually educate and fight for the visibility of their true sexuality.
Almost half (48%) of bisexuals are tired of being asked “Who Do You Really Like More?”, underscoring the frustrations of having their sexuality policed by others.
More than one-third (34%) of bisexual respondents revealed they’ve been labeled “greedy” or “confused” — a stereotype that simply refuses to die.
Over 28% of bisexual women said they’ve been accused of being more likely to cheat, with these accusations coming particularly from the lesbian community. Trust issues and harmful assumptions are still roadblocks that many bisexual sapphics must navigate.
Our survey revealed that 48.3% of bisexuals have been assumed to be straight or gay based on their partner. This perception continues to fuel the pressures of coming out and continually educating the world on their identity to not lose part of who they are.
While only 3% of lesbians find themselves questioning their sexuality, bisexuals are twice as likely to face this challenge. In fact, 1 in 10 bisexuals (10.82%) shared that they regularly question their own sexuality.
38% of bisexuals admitted feeling awkward when dating or socializing, especially when their sexuality is called into question. That “bi panic” you’ve heard about? It’s not just a meme.
32% of bisexual respondents said they seamlessly adapt their dating style across genders. Whether dating a woman, a man, or anyone in between, bisexual sapphics are adjusting their approach and styles depending on the partner they are dating.
Our newest survey paints a vivid picture of the complexities bisexual sapphics face in their relationships, communities, and personal journeys. As attitudes evolve, so must the conversations around bisexuality. It’s time to acknowledge that being bi isn’t just a phase or a preference — it’s a valid, full-fledged identity. And frankly, the world has a LOT of catching up when it comes to understanding this identity.
