Capital Pride 2015: The Ultimate Lesbian Guide.

Jun 05, 2015

The U.S. Capital is celebrating 40 years of Pride this year. Are you ready for the #flashback40 festivities? I know I am! I also know that sometimes it’s difficult to find what you’re looking for when every guide, article, photo and blog post you see is almost exclusively for the guys. But don’t despair, we’ve done the job of finding THE parties, events and parades that apply to you – the most attractive, funny, intelligent reader we know – in our Ultimate Lesbian Guide to Capital Pride 2015!

My favorite thing about Pride in June is that it’s not just a day, it’s not even a week… it’s an entire effin’ month! Which means you should probably get ready to party, like, yesterday. So quickly before we head out, Pride roll call:

Sunglasses?
Water bottle?  √
Other “water” bottle?
Conspicuous rainbow-colored paraphernalia?
iPhone (with the HER Capital Pride Guide on it)? √ Lez do this, beautiful people!

Spoken Word

Busboys and Poets presents Women’s Spoken Word

Women’s Spoken Word

Busboys and Poets and Capital Pride are bringing you the annual Women’s Spoken Word on June 9th. This year they’re taking it to the next level with a DJ, live band and burlesque (what!). Your spoken word host will be Shelly Bell with performances by Chocolate City Burlesque and Cabaret and singer/songwriter Be Steadwell. When the floor opens up, the mic will be open to women-identified folks of all backgrounds to share their story through words. If you’re more of the “I’m good right here (in my seat)”-kind of folk, you should expect a diverse chorus of voices from professional spoken word performers to open mic rookies with a smattering of acoustic musical performances. This sounds like my kind of event!
Venue: Busboys and Poets
Where: 1025 5th Street NW, Washington, DC
When: Tuesday, June 9
Time: 8:30pm – 11:30pm
