Get Your Pint On

May 21, 2015

Don’t let the pink logo fool you, these girls aren’t messing around. They’re out to have a good time whilst enjoying the awesomeness that is craft beer. If you’ve ever ventured outside of Coors or Miller you know that sinking your teeth into a cold IPA, Witte or Imperial Stout is quite possibly one of the best things you can do. So we asked the girls of Arizona’s Girls Pint Out to tell us a bit more about their chapter.

Tell us about your group and the wider Girls Pint Out organization – How was it set up, who tends to go? Girls Pint Out was established in Indiana in 2010, and our Chapter was the first to be chartered outside the original. Our mission is to create an unintimidating, fun environment to build a community of women who love craft beer. Whether you’re a craft beer novice or enthusiast, there is no membership process. To join, simply come to one of our events and have a pint. [editor’s note: BEST membership fee ever]

Tell us about your events – What do you do, how much do you drink? Our goal is to host events that are both educational and fun. Our meet ups often consist of tours at a local brewery, a showcase on a specific style of beer, or fundraising for a charitable organization. You can drink as little or as much as you like, but keep in mind there are many styles of beer that have a high ABV level. We don’t want you to overindulge on Belgian Strong and regret it in the morning.

Tell us what non-beer lovers are missing – why is craft beer so great? There are many different varieties and styles of beer. We want to help you learn about them and try them all so you can discover which beers you prefer. At its core, beer is simple; water, barley, hops, and yeast. But through that process (and sometimes with the help of other ingredients) complex aromas and tastes are produced. We believe there’s a style of beer out there for everyone, and it’s our goal to help you find it.

What’s your favorite beer right now? The one in my hand, especially if it’s a local Arizona brew.

Tell us about a cool local beer we should try. There are amazing things happening within the Arizona beer community, and seeing the partnerships between the breweries is an impressive display of co-ompetition (cooperative competition). Recently we’ve been to Peoria Artisan Brewery where they are creating many different beer styles on a small batch system, and their Savannah Marie IPA really stood out. Huss Brewing has a new canning line we saw in action and their Magic in the Ivy was a big hit during spring training. We’ve had so many great events at so many of our local breweries that it’s impossible to list them all and pick just one.

Where is your next event and how can we join?! Our next event is June 3, 2015 at FATE Brewing in Scottsdale. Details about the event and how to RSVP will be in the events section of our Facebook page. Our July event is being planned at Arizona Wilderness and we’re excited to share those details once they’re confirmed. We have a lot of exciting things happening in our chapter right now.
