Launching Sex, Intimacy, and Kink Preferences to Profiles on HER.

For the first time ever, we here at HER took a deep look into the intimate lives of over 1,000 women and queer users to truly understand how our community connects with one another, expresses their desires, and explores kinks. This research is all about giving you a real look at what intimacy means to women and queer folks-  and we couldn’t be more excited to share what we’ve learned.

We were blown away when we learned that 89% of users surveyed stated that sexual compatibility is a top priority when matching on a dating app. Our research found that our users felt that no dating app actually supports women and queer folks expressing these needs in a way that feels authentic to the sapphic experience. This is a huge problem. Don’t we face enough hurdles when it comes to dating in the queer community?!

We heard you, loud and clear: sex and intimacy are a MUST-HAVE when it comes to making that perfect, lasting match. So, we’re rolling out a brand new feature that helps you get to the point right from the first swipe: sex, intimacy, and kink preferences!

Our brand new sexual preferences explore a multitude of intercourse from ‘Fingering’, ‘Dry Humping’, and ‘Strapping’. Whatever way you choose to satisfy that thirst- we’ve got you covered. But we didn’t stop there. We are also introducing roles such as  ‘Pillow Princess’, ‘Touch-Me-Not’, and ‘Service Tops’. We want to enable and empower all of our amazing users to express sapphic sexuality in a way that truly connects with them. Part of this update also includes creating a large range of support for different identities. This even includes asexual options like ‘Sex Positive’, ‘Sex-neutral’, and ‘Sex-repulsed’. Whether you experience sexual desire or prefer a ‘no, thanks,’ you’re now in control of making your preferences clear.

Sexual compatibility isn’t the only thing that’s on our users’ minds when they’re swiping. Our research found that our users find non-sexual acts of intimacy to be JUST as important as the bedroom stuff. We’ve turned that romantic urge for the sapphic gaze and yearning into new selections on your profile, including ‘Eye Gazing’, ‘Emotional Attachment’, and ‘Cuddling’. This broader view of intimacy was prevalent in our research, citing emotional closeness as equally high as physical closeness. Unfortunately, these kinds of connections get overlooked or skipped entirely thanks to the overwhelming comp-het narrative where it’s all about penetrative intimacy (like it’s the only thing that matters). 

Our latest research found that 82% of users had a good understanding of what they were seeking during sex. We love that confidence! Starting on November 6th, users will not only be able to select their sexual preferences, intimacy preferences, and kinks but also filter for compatible preferences to meet their right match.
