FAQs

How can I feel more included as a Black lesbian in the LGBTQIA+ community?

HER is all about inclusivity and making sure that everyone feels safe and comfortable. With rules and moderators in place, you can feel confident that you’re in a respectful environment. That means that our policies include zero tolerance for racism, colorism, and other forms of discrimination.

We have more than 35 in-app communities that are a great way to connect with fellow members of the rainbow squad who share your interests and experiences. You can find and chat with other Black lesbians about anything ranging from dating to pop culture to the best local spots, and feel a sense of belonging within our platform.

You can also try our speed dating rounds or watch parties and connect in a safe and supportive environment. And, of course, the whole swiping ordeal is a great way to find your potential boo!

We want to help empower Black lesbians by listening to your needs, amping up your voices, and helping you find love in the way you need and deserve.

Dating as a Black woman has its own challenges. What is it like dating as a Black lesbian?

We know that the dating pool can feel smaller. It can be tough to find other Black lesbians to date, especially if you live in an area with a scarce LGBTQA+ community or almost no people of color.

But that’s not to say that it’s all bad. Dating as a Black lesbian can also be incredibly rewarding. You can connect with women who share your experiences and can relate to what you’re going through. Whether you’re interested in dating other

Black sapphics or meeting women from other backgrounds or cultures, we can say that at HER, there is a lovely bunch of wonderful and empathetic members ready to receive you with open arms.

We think that it’s on us to create spaces to make your dating experience beautiful and empowering. And with the support of communities like the ones within HER, you can find love, friendship, and even a chosen family.

How does HER ensure the safety of Black women within the app?

We take the safety of Black lesbians and queer folk within the app very seriously. We know that online dating can be wild sometimes, and we want all of our users to feel safe and respected.

Our beautiful team of volunteer moderators guard our in-app communities and events. They work around the clock to make sure that everyone is following the rules and treating each other with kindness and respect. And if someone does step out of line, they are quick to take action and resolve the situation.

HER also has a number of safety features in place to make sure that you feel in control of your interactions within the app. You can block and report users who are behaving inappropriately, and we ask all folks to have pictures up on their profiles to identify lurkers.

You can feel confident that HER has your back regarding safety. That way, you can focus on finding your match without having to worry about anything else.

Is there an in-app community specifically for Black lesbians?

At HER, we know how important it is for people to feel seen and included within the app.

So, yes, we do have the ‘Queer women of color’ community that you can join – it’s a fabulous space to connect with other WOC and share your experiences being part of the so-called alphabet mafia.

But that’s not all! HER has a whole range of niche groups that cover all kinds of interests and topics, from reading to astrology to fitness and beyond. And you can bet your cute little butt that there are other Black lesbians in these groups, too.

And if you can’t find a group that speaks to you, don’t worry because we’re always open to new ideas, and you can suggest new communities inside the app! So if you’re looking to connect with other Black lesbians specifically or just want to find a space that speaks to your passions, HER is here to help.
